TechTact
Exploring the intersection between traditional craft and technology, TechTact is a project centred on the application of machine assisted procedural tasks alongside artisanal skillsets. It serves as a conversational starting point, to self-observe how we want to use tools like AI to co-create part of the production pipeline in Design today and in the future. Using clay as a starting point, it is shaped into intricate vases before being scanned using photogrammetry. Once imported into the digital realm, the vases can then be manipulated through computed physical simulations like the pull of gravity or the turbulence of the wind. Frozen at a specific point, the resulting shapes are sent to the 3D-printer before being traditionally cast into moulds, ready for traditional serial production. In blending artisanal techniques with advanced digital processes, it presents new opportunities for contemporary craft.
Biography
After studying at the Zurich University of the Arts and ENSAAMA in Paris, Swiss creative Yael Anders now has her own atelier for illustration and creative projects. Following an Industrial Design degree in 2019, Tymen Goetsch has worked on multiple projects harnessing the power of digital tools and developing their role within the design process.
