In English, the word “spirits” means “souls”, “moods” and “alcoholic drinks”. These three aspects come together in Spirits. Excellent for the head, an exhibition that joyfully celebrates the art of designing a glass and creating a cocktail, whilst honouring women in design. The exhibition has been created by the students of the Space & Communication Design MA program at HEAD — Genève. A set of seven blown glasses containing a unique cocktail is displayed inside a scenography that plays with a political interpretation of women’s illicit alcohol consumption, evoking the era of prohibition. In a dialogue between the living and the ghosts, each glass is a tribute to the talent of one of seven female designers from past or present day: Ray Eames, Daisy Ginsberg, Eileen Gray, Anab Jain, Sophie Taueber-Arp, Magdalene Odundo and Valentine Schlegel.
